Calls for new green spaces to be opened

Pickering ward’s Lib Dem councillors are calling for green spaces at the former Tilbury School and former Bethune School sites to be opened to the public.

The Council had promised to convert and redevelop the areas into new pieces of green space open to the public as part of the planning conditions when they got agreement to build the new Bridgeview School in the area.

The work to convert the land into public open green space took place over the summer, but both areas are currently fenced off and closed to the public.

Local councillors Claire Thomas and Abigail Bell are calling for the sites to be opened to the public as soon as possible.

Claire said: “The Council needs to open both of these spaces for public use as soon as possible. The new Bridgeview School has opened, but the green spaces that were offered to people in the local area are still fenced off.”

“The Council needs to take our area seriously and give people the new open spaces they were promised,” added Claire.
