Lib Dem Prospective MP Claire Thomas – Conservatives plan cuts and Labour are too weak to do anything about it

The dissolution of parliament tomorrow marks the start of the June 8 snap General Election campaign.

Here in Hull and Hessle the Liberal Democrats are the party offering real opposition to further cuts by the Conservatives in government.

Claire Thomas, Lib Dem candidate for Hull West and Hessle, said: “I have listened to hundreds of people on the doorstep in the last few weeks. Time and again they tell me they are disillusioned with the state of the country.

“They tell me they want to see real opposition and real change.

“The Conservatives in government are planning to cut funding for our schools and health service. At the same time Jeremy Corbyn’s Labour party are too weak and divided to oppose it.

“In our area, we need a strong voice standing up for the local area, who can fight for change both locally and for our country.

“I’m determined to stand up for our area, for all the residents of West Hull and Hessle. We need strong opposition to the Conservative government, and only the Lib Dems can provide that.

“Nationally the Lib Dems have seen a huge increase in membership, which has more than doubled since 2015.

“Several high-profile by-election wins across the country, show there are many people turning to the party as the only effective opposition to Conservative cuts.”
