Lib Dems announce Mike Ross as new Group Leader

Councillor Mike Ross has been announced as the new Leader of Hull City Council’s Lib Dem Group.  Mike, who was previously Deputy Leader, replaces Councillor Abigail Bell.

Mike has been on the city council, representing Newland Ward, since 2002.  In that time he has held a number of different posts, including a committee chair and a cabinet member during the period when the Lib Dems ran the Council between 2006 and 2011.

Speaking after his election, Mike said: “This is an exciting time to be taking on the leadership of the Lib Dem Group in Hull.  We have just come through what was a bruising election across the country.  Here in Hull, however, we had an encouraging set of results, with two council seats won and good results elsewhere across the city.  Since the election we have seen a surge in party membership – demonstrating that people want to see a strong Lib Dem party.

“I know the job for the Lib Dems in the city is to stand up for local people in Hull.  We have a Labour party running the council that are back to their bad old ways and a Conservative government that is no longer held back by the Lib Dems in government.  We will be challenging both to get the best for the residents of Hull.”
