Lib Dems condemn £240,000 consultant spend and services cuts

8th January 2015

Lib Dem councillors have condemned the decision by the Labour administration to spend another £240,000 on consultants.

At a meeting of Council next Thursday Lib Dem councillors will condemn the £240,000 spend and call for further cuts to libraries and Customer Service Centres to stop.

It is understood the consultants will advise the Council on digital services as part of the ‘Customer Enablement and Empowerment Programme’.

A recently release report has outlined the goal of the programme is to rationalise CSCs, libraries and Customer Contact Points.

In reality the rationalisation will mean further cuts to jobs and vital services.

Councillor Mike Ross, Deputy Leader of the Lib Dem Group, said: “Labour councillors have once again been caught out spending money on consultants to advise on cuts.

“It is even more alarming that this was done so sneakily, with the details of the decision released late on Christmas Eve.

“Labour can’t keep wasting tax-payers money on consultants at a time when every penny counts.

“The money Labour is wasting could be put to better use, keeping open Hull’s Customer Service Centres and libraries. The waste must stop.”
