Over 550 people sign petition to reinstate the 53 bus route

Over 550 people have signed a petition calling for the 53 bus route to be reinstated.

The 53 bus route went from the city centre, through East Hull up to Saltshouse Road via Lambwath Road.

When the service was withdrawn on 31 August it left many people in the Lambwath Road, Hathersage Road, Burbage Road and Corona Drive with a long walk to the nearest bus stop.

Lib Dem Councillor Jackie Dad helped to organise the petition along with local campaigner Linda Tock.

Linda who will be presenting the petition at a meeting of Council tomorrow said: “It’s clear from speaking to people in the area that the 53 bus route was an important transport link.

“The route was convenient for many people in the area who relied on it to get to work, school or the shops. Now many face a long walk before they catch a bus,” added Linda. “We are calling for either the 53 bus route to be reinstated or a small part of another service to go down Lambwath Road.”

Jackie commented: “Lambwath Road really should have a bus service. I have already asked the bus operator and the Council to look into the issue and will be doing so again at the meeting of Council.
