On the day that the developer is meeting Planning Committee councillors to discuss options for the Wheelhouse Pub site, Beverley ward councillor Dave McCobb is calling for both sides to work together to deliver urgent action to sort out the derelict pub on Beverley Road.
Dave said: “Like many of my friends and neighbours in the Beverley Road area, I'm genuinely saddened every time I go past the site of the former Wheelhouse Pub on Beverley Road.
“The pub has been closed and fenced off for over a year now. And the site is getting worse all the time.
“My fellow Beverley Ward councillor Karen Mathieson will be attending the planning meeting today, hoping to put forward the views and concerns of residents in the local area.”
“Back in the summer, when an application for 12 houses was rejected by the Council, my colleague Cllr Karen Mathieson and I knocked on every door in Parkstone Road and the immediate vicinity of the pub to ask residents’ views.
“The vast majority of residents in the area told us that they are not opposed to housing altogether – they just thought that 12 houses was too much development for a relatively small site. and the Council’s Planning Committee agreed.
“I hope that the developer and the City Council can work together and find a way forward so that this site doesn’t continue to deteriorate and bring the area down.”
