Sutton Ward Councillor Terry Keal today welcomed £10,000 in funding for the refurbishment of Sutton’s War Memorial.
This funding from the Council follows a successful campaign by local residents and Terry to refurbish the war memorial.
The War Memorial has under gone refurbishment with the laying of Yorkstone paving to improve access. The memorial has also been cleaned, trees pruned, and old shrubs removed.
Terry said: “I’m delighted that the funds have been made available. The refurbishment of the war memorial means so much to local people, especially those who have relatives named on it.”
“A lot of hard work has been put into the project by many volunteers from the Sutton Museum and the Ings Centre.
“I have been overwhelmed by the enthusiasm and support from local people. I will of course continue to campaign for more funding to remember all those that fell.”
Terry added: “The Labour administration really should go back to the drawing board on this one. More importantly they should listen to the concerns of councillors – including their own backbenchers.”
