Labour backtrack on fluoridation plans for Hull

Labour councillors have described plans to fluoridate Hull’s water as “unlikely”. We’re delighted that Labour councillors have finally come around to our way of thinking and have started to listen to residents.

Residents across the city strongly opposed Labour plans to fluoridate water from the start – the Lib Dem team on the Council listened, and supported residents.

It’s typical that the administration is now trying to quietly U-turn during the summer rather than admitting that they should have listened to local residents in the first place.

Labour’s fluoridation plans were met with widespread opposition from the public. We’re pleased that Labour councillors now admit that spending thousands of pounds of tax-payers money a year on fluoridation is not the right answer.

Instead, we need to see money being spent on educating people, especially young people, about dental hygiene.
