Vince Cable launches Hull High Street support scheme

On Wednesday 12 April, the Liberal Democrat party leader, Sir Vince Cable MP launched Hull Liberal Democrat’s local high street support scheme. The scheme aims to provide independent businesses and local shopping parades with funding for improvements and events in their area.

Local high streets and shopping parades in Hull – such as Newland Avenue, Hessle Road, Chanterlands Avenue, Holderness Road, Princes Avenue, Spring Bank and Anlaby Road – are at the heart of communities across the city.

We know that small independent businesses in Hull are facing challenges, which is why we’ve launched this policy with Vince Cable. As the former Business Secretary, Vince has extensive experience working to support the interests of small businesses.

Lib Dems in Hull would create a fund that businesses can bid for. Whether it’s for improvements to pavements, additional CCTV, or for help to run local events – the fund would aim to give our local high streets the support they deserve.

The Liberal Democrat alternative Council budget set aside funding to initiate this scheme. It is intended that the scheme would be rolled-out in consultation with local businesses and community groups.
