Avenue ward Lib Dem councillor John Robinson has called for an urgent increase in visible policing in the Avenues are after alarming reports that several streets are the worst hit for crime in the city.
“The Avenues is a great area of the city and like many of my friends and neighbours I love living here,” said John.
“That’s why I was so saddened to read recent reports in the Hull Daily Mail of the increase in crime, and burglaries in particular, in the area.
“I have written to Humberside Police asking for them to immediately step up Police patrols in the area.
“I’ve also asked them for a face to face meeting as soon as possible so that I can put residents’ concerns to them face-to-face.”
“I’m determined to work with the Police, the Council, residents and local traders to tackle the problems with crime and anti-social behaviour.”
Princes Avenue was recently identified as a crime hotspot. Burglary was high in many roads, particularly Victoria Avenue, Avenues Court and Princes Avenue. According to insurance industry statistics the HU5 postcode is the area where a car is most likely to be stolen from.
