Lib Dem councillors will challenge the Labour administration’s decision to raise Council Tax at a meeting of councillors tomorrow.
They will call on Labour to freeze Council Tax by reducing the amount of money set aside in contingency funds and to reduce the amount of borrowing.
Lib Dem Group Leader, Councillor Mike Ross, said: “It’s simply not right that at a time when every penny counts the Council is putting millions of pounds into contingencies.
“Residents should not have a 4% Council Tax rise imposed on them whilst Labour councillors borrow millions of pounds to pay for pet projects.
“Once again Labour want to max out the Council’s credit card and have taxpayers shoulder the burden.
“We will be calling for a freeze to Council Tax and for a reduction in contingencies and borrowing.
