A new crossing is due to be installed in the next few weeks on Ellis Street, east Hull, after years of campaigning.
The crossing will provide a safe route across Ellis Street, between ASDA Mount Pleasant and the Balfour Lodge Residential Home.
Local councillors Adam Williams, Linda Chambers and Diana Hatcher have been campaigning for years for the safe crossing - and fought to get the funding in place for the scheme.
Councillor Williams said: "There are many elderly residents in this area, who find it difficult to safely cross Ellis Street to get to the shops. I first tried to get a crossing at this location back in 2005 - but at the time we were told there wasn't enough "footfall" to justify it. It's been a long fight to get to this point and it's great news that the crossing has finally got the go-ahead."
Work on the new zebra crossing is due to begin on 9th August.
