We're calling for action from the Council in the fight against plastic pollution

We're calling for tough action from Hull City Council in the fight against plastic pollution. We've written to the Council’s Chief Executive about single-use plastics. The letter asks for every step possible to be taken to reduce the Council’s use of single-use plastics – from the types of cups used at the Guildhall to wider measures linked to Council procurement policies.

A growing number of businesses in Hull are already working to fight plastic pollution. The Deep and the University of Hull are doing some fantastic work in this area. An increasing numbers of bars and coffee shops are also doing their bit by scrapping plastic straws and stirrers.

A plastic straw can last for 600 years. There are small changes that we can all make to cutting down on single-use plastics and help protect our environment. We want to see the Council, as a major organisation in the city, playing a leading role.
