Protect our Nurseries

Nurseries across Hull are facing an uncertain future due to the Coronavirus crisis. Early years providers were originally told that they could access the Government furlough scheme and their usual government support at the same time. But in a recent update the Government changed its guidance to say nurseries who offer funded places will only be able to furlough a proportion of their staff.

The Liberal Democrats are urging the Government to reverse their decision not to give nurseries full access to the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme.

The National Day Nurseries Association has warned that this decision could be the 'final straw' for many nurseries. You can read more about this here

Hull Lib Dem leader Cllr Mike Ross said: "This is a huge blow to childcare providers here in Hull - and the many households who rely on nurseries during normal times. We already know that the funding for early years comes up woefully short. There's a real fear that this will result in nurseries not being able to survive with staff losing their jobs."

"We're calling on the Government to reverse this decision - and give our local nurseries the support they need to survive. Sign our petition below to help back the campaign."

"I call on the Government to give nurseries and childcare providers the support they need to survive the Coronavirus outbreak. Thousands of families across Hull rely on the services our nurseries provide."
